Cupping Therapy: An Ancient Technique for Modern Muscle Pain
July 13, 2026 · 5 min read · by Arfia · 42
How cupping releases deep muscle tightness, improves blood flow, and speeds up recovery from stiff, overworked muscles.
Cupping therapy uses gentle suction to lift the skin and superficial muscle layer away from deeper tissue. At SN Ortho-Neuro Care we use it as a targeted add-on for stubborn knots in the neck, shoulders and lower back that don't fully release with massage or exercise alone.
How it works
Special cups are placed over tight muscle bands and a controlled vacuum is created inside them. This draws extra blood flow to the area, helps flush out metabolic waste that builds up in overused muscles, and mechanically stretches the connective tissue (fascia) that surrounds the muscle fibres.
Benefits
- Loosens deep knots that resist regular massage
- Improves local blood circulation and tissue oxygenation
- Reduces muscle stiffness after long hours of desk work or manual labour
- Complements dry needling and manual therapy for faster relief
Who benefits most
Patients with chronic neck and shoulder tightness, mechanical low back pain, and athletes recovering from heavy training respond especially well. Our physiotherapist will check your skin and medical history first — cupping isn't advised during pregnancy or on broken skin.
Ask your doctor at SN Ortho-Neuro Care, Kasganj if cupping can be added to your treatment plan.
